Padres Sign First Baseman Eric Hosmer To Largest Deal In Franchise History

First baseman Eric Hosmer agreed to sign with the San Diego Padres on Saturday night, landing their biggest free agent prize in franchise history. The 28-year-old Hosmer parlayed a career-best season at the plate into a lucrative deal that will last eight years (with an opt out after five) for $144 million. It’s the first nine-figure deal ever given out by the Padres. Although he only has limited experience at Petco Park in his career, in 12 games between the regular season, World Baseball Classic and the 2016 All-Star Game, Hosmer has hit .458/.481/.813 with five homers and 19 RBIs.
