ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Los Angeles Rams are signing veteran quarterback Carson Wentz. Sources say that Wentz’s signing signifies that Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s thumb injury may require the veteran to miss additional games. Stafford did not play vs. the Packers on Sunday after injuring his thumb vs. the Cowboys the week before, with backup quarterback Brett Rypien getting the start instead.

Wentz hasn’t played in the NFL this season after he started at least seven games for three different teams in each of the last seven seasons.  Wentz threw for 1,755 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Commanders last year, earning a 2-5 record.  No team decided to sign the veteran after Wentz hit free agency in the offseason.

The Rams waived Rypien and released Dresser Winn to make room for Wentz.  Stafford and Wentz are now the only two quarterbacks on the Rams roster.
